Paris, Kentucky to Propose “Pit Bull” Ban Tonight!

**Permission to Cross Post!!**

Please call the two numbers below immediately to voice your opposition to the proposed city wide ban on pit bulls. The mayor, Don Kiser, has proposed it “under the radar” and now they could vote it into law tonight. If this happens, the County Judge Executive, Donnie Foley, will attempt to pass it for the entire county.

I was unable to locate email addresses, so if anyone is able to get them, please send out. Thank you!!

  1. To ban pit bulls is wrong! If they want to ban pit bulls than they must ban ALL dogs. We forget that all animals are animals, they are not human with reasoning and the sense of right and wrong. My children have been bitten and blood drawn with scars from small dogs. Last I checked America was still considered a “free” country. BSL no makes no sense at all, ban the blacks and mexicans since supposedly they are ones that make up most of our dangerous “gangs” in this country. How many innocent by standers have died from gang related drive by shootings this year along. Check those numbers. Plus if you had half a brain you would check the CDC website to see that it is not Pit Bulls on the top of the bite list it is in fact the German Shepard- weird huh? Considering they are known as “police dogs”.

  2. Dear Mayor and City Counsel,

As the owner of a rescued Pit Bull mix I implore you to reconsider adopting legislation that will ban pit bulls. It is reported that the proposal describes pit bull terriers as “any dog belonging to the breed Staffordshire Bull Terrier or American Staffordshire Terrier, or any dog that is commonly known as a pit bull or pit bull terrier, or any mixed breed of dog which has the appearance and characteristics belonging to such breed.”

How would you begin to determine weather or not a dog is included in these groups?
This is open to broad speculation and opinion. If you are thinking a Pit Bull is easy to identify please visit the following website. If it does not change your mind it may help to shed some light on what a Pit Bull truly is: http://www.pitbullsontheweb.com/petbull/findpit.html

Please consider those of us who are responsible Pit Bull owners and PUNISH THE DEED NOT THE BREED. The owners are responsible for the dog and the owner is responsible for the actions of the dog as their training and care for the animal reflects in its behavior. Gracie (my Pit Bull mix) is the most lovable, caring, loyal companion anyone could ask for. She was rescued from a very bad situation and in turn has rescued us from some of the same prejudices that this legislation supports. My nephew (now 9) was attacked by a medium size “non vicious” breed of dog when he was just 5 years old.
Why ? Because he was holding a hotdog in his hand. Until Gracie came into our lives Dustin would not even look at a dog let alone interact with one. Today Dustin is a changed young man. He feeds Gracie, plays with her, takes her for walks, baths her and most importantly snuggles with her and tells her how much her loves her. Imagine such a “vicious” breed of dog being able to undo all the terrible fears such a “non-vicious” breed imposed.

Gracie is not just a dog. My feelings are the same as so many other pet owners- Gracie is part of our family!

Please keep Gracie and the other responsible Pit Bull owners and their pets in mind when casting your vote !

    Thank you,
