Missouri HB 1116 Would Prohibit Breed-Specific Legislation Within the State

Missouri HB 1116, which was proposed by Rep. Ron Hicks, would prohibit cities within the state of Missouri from passing breed-specific legislation (BSL).   The one-page bill reads:

This bill specifies that a village, town, or city has the authority to prohibit dogs from running at large or to further control or regulate dogs within its boundaries if the ordinance, order, policy, or regulation is not breed specific.

The bill is currently in the House Committee on General Laws.

  1. Please don’t discriminate against Bully Breeds. I’ve gotten to know many since volunteering at a shelter and they are wonderful. Like they say, it goes back to the owner’s training. As with any dog, you have to get to know them first. They are some of the biggest babies.
    Thank you.

  2. My pit bull loves to meet new people, the only danger is he may lick them to pieces. This breed wants to please their owner. If the owner encourages and rewards bad behavior, there is the problem. Punish the owner, not the breed.
