From the Times-Republican:
“…plans for the city council to talk about restricting pit bulls within Marshalltown have been weeks in the making, but the actual discussion will arrive Monday, days after a pit bull attack downtown.
The council in February discussed and passed an ordinance lifting a previous law that automatically declared some breeds, including pit bulls, as vicious.
Current policy requires any dog to first bite or show aggressive behavior before being declared vicious. A second bite or show of aggression would then lead to euthanization.” Read the rest of this entry »

From KTIV Channel 4 News:
“…After a six year old boy was mauled by three pit bulls last month, officials want to toughen up it’s pet policy.
…Right now, the city takes action after a dog has bitten, or attempted to bite, someone. City Administrator Lance Hedquist decides if the owner will have to cage in their pet or if it’ll be euthanized.
City leaders now want to tighten up their pet ordinance… to prevent another tragedy from happening. One idea…. not to allow certain breeds of dogs within city within.”

Merrill Hale, South Sioux City Council Member, says ‘It’s not the dog. It’s the owner’.”

But Winograd in his book Redemption: The Myth of Pet Overpopulation and the No Kill Revolution in America did the footwork, wrote the book, and proved it. Read the rest of this entry »

From the Muskegon Chronicle:
“During Monday’s council work session, council members could not agree on banning certain breeds such as pit bulls, and whether owners walking their pets should have a specific length of leash.
But in light of increased concerns from citizens, such as the safety of children who live or play near aggressive dogs, the council agrees that the existing ordinance needs to be amended.”
