Phillipsburg, NJ Considers Strictures for “Pit Bull” Owners

The Phillipsburg City Council is considering an ordinance specific to “pit bulls” which could include requiring them to be leashed (an ordinance they should already have for all dogs), muzzled, licensed specific to their breed (except that “pit bull” is not a breed), walked only by adults in public, and insured for $1 million (even though few insurers, if any, will insure supposed “dangerous” breeds for this much).

You can contact members of the council and the mayor by sending your polite e-mails to the city clerk using the city’s web form. Please encourage the council to consider a leash law for all breeds and better Animal Control enforcement.
