Kinder, Louisiana, and Allen Parish, Louisiana Consider “Pit Bull” Bans and/or Restrictions

From WDSU Channel 6 in New Orleans:

“The Allen Parish Police Jury and Kinder officials are taking closer looks at the kinds of pets residents own in the wake of a fatal mauling in Longville in Beauregard Parish and an incident in which a police officer shot a dog after it attacked him.

Both incidents involved pit bull dogs. Monday, Kinder’s Town Council introduced a proposal to amend its vicious-animal laws to ban pit bulls, and the police jury has placed discussion of a similar ban on its Feb. 19 agenda.”

Please write the Allen Parish Police Jury and the Kinder, Louisiana mayor and police department and politely inform them that breed-specific legislation in any form is ineffective and unenforceable.   An enforced leash law and a non-breed-specific dog law are more than adequate to police irresponsible dog owners of any breed:

  1. There are holes in this story. Is Kelly Chapman the owner or the police officer? What prompted the police to be called to the house in the first place?APBT are very territorial and protective. They act on “stranger danger” sense. I wish the media would tell the WHOLE story. Bad owners create bad dogs

  2. Kinder passed the pit bull ban. They don’t care that it violates our 14th amendment rights. I am a citizen and a tax payer so I should get equal protection under the law and the right to due process. They cannot prove that my dog is a pit bull and they cannot scientifically or statistically prove that my dog is dangerous. So how can they take my property without being able to prove their case? Please help fight against this cruelty.

  3. OK SO WHAT ABOUT THE GRANDFATHER ACT THAT GIVES US THE RIGHT TO KEEP THE PITS WE HAVE ALREADY HAD BEFORE THE LAW WAS IN AFFECT.

  4. just to let anyone who might want to know the ruling has not been voted on for allen parish. They are forming a committee to investigate it. A person in the police jurors office said that adjustments have to be made before they can rule on it. Also it does not state that all pit bulls will be ban from the parish. They cannot specify one breed. Also known as BSL. anyway the ruling will affect all dogs. All dogs will have to be in a controlled environment because a chihuahua can bite you as well as any other dog. Also if strays are found the owner will be ticketed if found. There has to be a animal control officer enstated and a place has to be built to put the animals that are picked whether it be a stray or a problem dog. So i take that as we will need to build fenced in pens for our dogs to ensure the proper environment.
