‘Pet World’ Host Steve Dale Makes One Final Plea to Elgin City Council to Strike Breed-Specific Provision from Ordinance Proposal

Editor’s note: If you glean nothing more from Steve’s post, take note of this.   Steve writes: “local experts [meaning experts in Elgin] – veterinarians and dog trainers tell me…their calls aren’t returned either, and their voices aren’t being heard.”   So again I ask you.   Who’s not telling the truth?

My Last Plea for Elgin Officials

…I’ve expressed my views on the air, and offered to have Mayor Schock join me or the prime ring leader of this ordinance, Councilman John Prigge. No calls have been returned. What’s more, the City’s public information officer will longer even return my call (or others from at least some people I know, even from Elgin residents). Elgin maintains that while I may be an expert, I’m an outsider (I suppose Chicago is outside Elgin). Ed Fritz of Best Friends Animal Society flew in from Utah to testify and was not given the opportunity. Still, local experts – veterinarians and dog trainers tell me they have the same problem, their calls aren’t returned either, and their voices aren’t being heard…

…Listener Carlos called in on my WLS Radio show. It’s one of those calls that I will always remember. Carlos lives in Elgin. After serving our country, and being injured in action he bonded with one special dog. It just so happens that dog isn’t a Labrador Retriever or a Colllie named Lassie, but instead a Pit Bull. His dog is well behaved – yet, instead of being treated as the hero is he is, if the ordinance passes – he will be treated as if he’s a dogfighter.

…In America, we’re supposed to directly go after bad guys and not restrict the rights of people who are abiding by the law, and causing no law enforcement problems…

One response to “‘Pet World’ Host Steve Dale Makes One Final Plea to Elgin City Council to Strike Breed-Specific Provision from Ordinance Proposal”

  1. Steve’s mention of U.S. serviceman Carlos reminded me of Councilman Prigge’s repeated citation of breed bans being passed on military bases. We lobbied hard against those bans but had difficulty opposing them because military men and women do not have the same rights as civilians. That is NOT the case for civilians whose constitutional rights are inalienable per the Constitution.

Many a military man complained to us that they were fighting for freedom overseas for foreign peoples and yet, ironically, back home their own rights were being negated via a breed ban forcing their loved ones to either move off-base, or get rid of their dogs. Some thanks for serving your country huh?

Anyway, just wanted to make that distinction, because we know Prigge didn’t…and won’t.
