Draconian Ohio Breed-Specific Bill Introduced

Ohio House Bill 568, introduced by Representative Tyrone Yates of Cincinnati, seeks to prohibit the ownership, keeping, or harboring of a dog that “belongs to a breed that is commonly known as a pit bull dog.” Furthermore, if this bill is passed and adopted into law, all such dogs will be seized and euthanized. Nova Scotia Considers Legislation That Would Allow Municipalities to Ban/Restrict Specific Breeds

Editor’s note: Bill 138 defines “fierce, dangerous or restricted dogs, including defining them by breed, cross-breed, partial breed, behaviour or type” and allows for the “regulating [of] the keeping of fierce, dangerous or restricted dogs, including requiring spaying or neutering, liability insurance, warning signs, physical controls on or off the owner’s property or training requirements.”

The evidence is clear: Pit bulls, due to their breeding over many years, are time bombs.

Lakewood, Ohio Considers “Pit Bull” Ban

“Lakewood City Council will consider an ordinance concerning dangerous dogs at its meeting Monday evening.

City council will specifically consider prohibiting owning pit bulls or canary dogs.

Councilman Brian Powers plans to propose the amendment…

If the ordinance passes, owners will be guilty of a misdemeanor crime and could face a fine.”

Please contact the Lakewood City Council and inform them that breed bans/restrictions are unenforceable and ineffective.

Kinston, North Carolina Considers “Pit Bull” Ban/Restrictions

“Kinston officials are drafting an ordinance from the mold of many communities around the nation that have passed laws restricting or banning pit bull ownership.

…The ordinance, which [Public Safety Director Greg] Smith plans to present to council members during their May 19 work session, includes a number of measures, including restricting the number of pit bulls per house, requiring owners to register their existing pit bulls, and keeping any more of the breed out of Kinston.”

Please contact the Kinston City Council and inform them that breed bans/restrictions are unenforceable and ineffective.

Mosinee, Wisconsin Considers “Pit Bull” Ban

Osceola, Nebraska Considers Banning Eight Breeds of Dog Including American Pit Bull Terriers

“The City of Osceola will hold a second reading of a proposed ordinance to ban American pit bull terriers and seven other dog breeds at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Osceola City Hall, 451 N. Main.

Reading, Ohio City Council Considers Banning “Vicious” Dogs Including “Pit Bulls”

“Sparked by an incident in which a teen was bitten by an unleashed pit bull, City Council is considering an ordinance that would ban all vicious dogs – including pit bulls – from the city.

The ordinance, which was given its first reading last week, uses the Ohio Revised Code definition of a vicious dog as one that, without provocation, has killed or injured a person or another dog, and/or a dog that belongs to a breed that is commonly known as pit bull.

Stoughton, Massachusetts Considers Limit Law for “Pit Bulls”

The number of unlicensed pit bulls running loose through Stoughton’s neighborhoods is on the rise and Animal Control Officer Kristin Bousquet is hoping to make some changes; or at least raise some awareness about a potentially dangerous problem.
